If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, you don’t ask what seat. You just get on. -Sheryl Sandberg
In the best-selling book, Lean In, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg recounts her experience when she was being recruited to Google in 2001. At the time, Google was a very young company. She explains how she compared her job offers and expressed concern that at Google it was “entirely unclear what her job was in the first place.” At the time, Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, described Google as a “rocket ship” and advised her: “You don’t ask what seat; you just get on.” Sheryl Sandberg made up her mind to join the company and has repeated that advice to “countless people….encouraging them to reduce their career spreadsheets to one column: potential for growth.”
This week, I encourage you to take inventory of your own career. And what steps are you taking to ensure your continued growth?
Enjoy a happy and productive week!
